Modern-day_Anesthesiology

Propoful is one of the most commonly used intravenous drugs injected to maintain general anesthesia.

Since the beginning of the anesthesia drugs trials, there has been a huge evolution. Nitrous oxide was used as a type of “anesthetic”, unsafe and not very useful. Cocaine was also used during both dental and medical procedures, to calm the patient down, however it still caused pain and lasting drug side effects. Now, they have a controlled amount for the patient, with the amount that he/she is able to handle. Anesthesia now is fully safe and controlled by the anesthesiologist.

Today, doctors use a mask that has a gaseous form of anesthesia. Within minutes, the patient is fully under anesthetics and will be until the surgery is over.
